American Arts Incubator International Art Progam

Yesterday, I applied to be an artist in the American Arts Incubator program. It is a partnership between ZERO1 and U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). This incredible opportunity chooses artists to travel to Laos, Mongolia, the Philippines or Papua New Guinea to collaborate on an art project with locals. The community-driven project address a local issue culminating in a digital or mural art project. The selected artists will work with underserved youth in the communities through workshops and projects. I hope to be a part of this life-changing program. I have been dreaming of participating in an international community art project and this would be the perfect opportunity to fulfill it.

The project asks artists to state a preference or tie to Laos, Mongolia, the Philippines or Papua New Guinea. My tie to Papua New Guinea is through my grandfather. He lived there for six months after he met my grandmother in Australia. He wrote her letters, courting her from PNG. I would love to the opportunity to travel to the place he loved so much and work with people to creatively educate the community.

Iceland Travel Art

I was thrilled to be working on this commission of an Iceland trip. The client sent me photos of various locations that meant something to her and her husband and I chose how to lay out the scenes. I can't wait to post the final in the next few weeks. I will be offering travel paintings like these in my Etsy shop. They are perfect for the trip of a lifetime, honeymoon keepsake or other adventures. Paintings will be offered in 8x10 and 11x14 sizes. I will be making an announcement about this new offering in the next few weeks!

Some sketches from the week

Now that my Delta Workshop show is hung, I am moving on to other projects including creating new work for another solo show in December, constructing new bags, and starting some new to-be-announced projects. This week, I had some time to paint in my sketchbook and here are some sketches I made with the little downtime I had. I've been obsessed with gouache and watercolor lately and I kind of feel like it won't go away anytime soon.

This plant is a hanging philodendron. They are the best houseplants since
they are so easy to grow and get nice and long so you can get creative
with how you hang them.

Darondo passed away this week and I was sad to hear about that. The Bay
Area soul singer performed a few years ago in San Jose and it was
amazing. You can hear one of his songs here.

I also painted some golden objects around the house including a lamp, a
globe and a beer stein. This one definitely spawned a new project that I
will be announcing in a few weeks!
