Here's what I've been...
Doing
After backpacking last weekend, it motivated me to make some progress on my tidying project. I recycled another bag of paper and donated another bag of stuff. I am down to getting rid of papers, photos, videos and old computer files. That's it. I'm now feeling much more creative and not bogged down by material things.
I've been looking through piles of sketches and sketchbooks, thinking of new ideas for new work this summer and experimenting. It's a little frustrating, but also good for the process. I am finding some of the work from the 100 Day Project might become larger paintings.
Reading
This Brain Pickings article is pretty interesting. It talks about how combining and recombining our array of thoughts, memories and knowledge is the key to productive thought or genius. Haha, so I'm not crazy? All these random thoughts may lead to something...
I'm still reading Trying Not to Try by Edward Slingerland and have added Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. I'll let you know how I am liking them by next week.
Watching
On Monday morning, I was recovering from the weekend's backpacking trip and thought some coffee, couch and TV were in order. To my surprise, there was a Nina Simone documentary on Netflix. You must see What Happened, Miss Simone? It's an incredible look at this performer that is like no other. Warning: you will get lots of goosebumps and may shed a tear while watching.
Listening
Thanks for all the positive feedback from last week's playlist! Here's this week's Spotify playlist. It's called The 4th, but there isn't really any theme, rhyme or reason to it. And yes, it includes Nina Simone. Hope you like it!
I have a post in the works on what podcasts I like. For now, I'll just let you know that I love The Jealous Curator's (Danielle Krysa) Art for Your Ear. She is the best interviewer! I love her tone, humor and voice. Her guests are great too.
My friend's band Oddly Even has a new EP out. This duo makes great music and I know you're gonna love it!
Happy 4th of July!!! Have a safe and relaxing weekend:)
